The Gouffre de Padirac with children

Ages, the free-for-under-4s rule, the baby-carrier tip and what to expect.

Updated July 2026 · Gouffre de Padirac Tickets Concierge Team

Padirac is one of the best family outings in the Lot — the descent, the river and the boat make it an adventure children remember. Here's what parents should know before booking.

Tickets and ages

Children aged 4 to 12 use the reduced-rate child ticket, and there's a child audioguide to keep them engaged. Children under 4 visit free but still need a ticket — add them to your party at checkout and we arrange their free admission with your booking. From 13, children use the adult ticket, with a reduced youth rate available on proof.

Practical tips for families

Prams and pushchairs cannot be taken down, so bring a baby carrier for infants. It is cool below ground — around 13°C — so pack a light jacket for each child. There are many steps, though lifts help with the main descent and return.

The boat trip is usually the highlight; keep little ones close on the landing stage, and the boatman-guide will do the rest.

Frequently asked

Do under-4s need a ticket?

Yes — they visit free but the site still requires a ticket, which we arrange as part of your booking. Add them as party members at checkout.

Can I bring a pram?

No — prams can't go down, so bring a baby carrier for infants.
